Welcome to Hounds and Helis, where we turn the incredible world of search and rescue (SAR) dog skills into a thrilling sport for you and your dog. As the founder and head instructor, Éadaoin is excited to introduce you to the captivating sport of Mantrailing, our most popular of our diverse offerings of SAR dog sports.

What is Mantrailing?

Mantrailing taps into your dog's natural instincts. It involves your dog using their extraordinary sense of smell to locate a hidden person by following their scent trail. They’ll wear a harness and are attached to you on a long line. Your dog will be given a scent item (glove/hat etc) belonging to the person they are looking for. They will use that item to identify the persons trail and follow it until they reach their hiding place.  Mantrailing not engages your dog both physically and mentally but also deepens the bond between you and your pet.

Your dog will work in rural and urban areas. Mantrailing is a suitable activity for dogs of all ages, breeds and reactive dogs are welcome. 

All of our Introduction Workshops and Trailblaze Courses are suitable for reactive dogs.

1. Introduction to Mantrailing Workshop:

Dip your toes into the world of Mantrailing with our 3 hour-long outdoor workshop. Discover if Mantrailing is the perfect fit for you and your dog as they experience the excitement of working on a long line to find a hidden person and receive a well-deserved reward. This workshop is suitable for all breeds, ages, and reactivity levels. Once completed, you gain access to our array of weekly drop in training sessions, advancement days, webinars, and seminars, where you and your dog will soon be working on split trails, ages trails, walking mispers (missing persons) and more!

2. Trailblaze Course:

For those eager to dive deep into the art and science of Mantrailing, our Trailblaze Course is the ideal starting point. This immersive 4-week course combines online learning with practical handling, offering a comprehensive platform for building your expertise in Mantrailing. With limited availability, this course ensures personalized attention as you and your dog embark on a transformative journey, mastering the intricacies of successful Mantrailing.
