Welcome to Hounds and Helis, where we turn the incredible world of search and rescue dog skills into a thrilling adventure for you and your beloved pet. As the founder and head instructor, I'm excited to introduce you to the captivating sport of Mantrailing, a key component of our diverse offerings of SAR dog sports.
What is Mantrailing?
Mantrailing is a dynamic and exhilarating search and rescue (SAR) dog sport that taps into your dog's natural instincts. It involves your dog using their extraordinary sense of smell to locate a hidden person by following a scent trail. They’ll wear a harness and are attached to you on a long line. Your dog will be given a scent item (glove/hat etc) belonging to the person they are looking for. They will use that scent item to identify the person's trail and follow it until they reach their hiding place. This engaging activity not only hones your dog's abilities but also deepens the bond between you and your four-legged friend.
Your dog will work in rural and urban areas. Mantrailing is a suitable activity for dogs of all ages, breeds and reactive dogs are welcome.
Éadaoin is a fully certified Instructor with Mantrailing Global and has worked search and rescue dogs operationally in Ireland and the UK for the past 10 years.
Mantrailing is a lifesaving skill used by search and rescue, police and military forces across the world. However, Mantrailing is not just for use by professionals, but is also a great activity for anyone who wants to spend quality time with their dog.
One of the many amazing things about this sport is it is fully accessible to all people and dogs, regardless of age, breed or disability. This includes dogs with confidence and reactivity issues, as dogs are always worked one at a time.

This 3-hour workshop is the perfect introduction to the exciting world of Mantrailing. Once you have completed an Introduction Workshop, you can attend our weekly training and our weekend training.
Reactive dogs are welcome. This course us suitable for all ages, breeds and abilities.
Booking is essential as places are limited. Bookings are non-transferable and only refundable if we can get someone to take your spot.
