Introduction to Air Scent

Location: Ballincollig Dog Park
Ballincollig Dog Park offers a private, secure 1-acre space with 6ft fencing—perfect for safe, off-lead dog training. Fresh water is available onsite.

Discover the Magic of Air Scent – Ireland’s First Dog Sport of Its Kind

Air Scent is a unique and exciting Search and Rescue (SAR) dog sport, now available exclusively through Hounds and Helis. Unlike Mantrailing, which trains dogs to follow a specific person’s scent trail, Air Scent dogs are trained to locate anyone in a designated area by detecting scent carried on the wind—no scent item required.

Dogs work freely and off-lead in this sport, wearing high-visibility gear while learning to search larger areas such as forests or fields. It’s an exhilarating experience to watch your dog develop independence, focus, and natural hunting instincts in a safe, controlled environment.

And don’t worry—your dog doesn’t need perfect obedience skills or a solid recall to get started. We’ll teach you both using fun, confidence-building games designed for success.

Who is it for?

  • Dogs of all ages and breeds

  • Reactive dogs are welcome

  • Handlers who want to build a stronger bond with their dog

  • Anyone looking to explore a new, adventure-filled activity

Whether you’re looking to boost your dog’s confidence or simply want to try something new outdoors, Air Scent offers an unforgettable experience.

Why Train with Hounds and Helis?
Éadaoin, founder of Hounds and Helis, has operational experience with qualified Air Scent Search Dogs in both Lowland and Mountain Rescue. Her dogs have been assessed and deployed in Ireland and the UK, and now she’s sharing that expertise with everyday dog owners.
